FGC11336 was discovered as part of the FGC11313 to FGC11366 series in a Full Genomes Y Elite 1.0 (BGI) test on a person with surname Maher in April 2014. FGC11336 and a few other SNPs in this series turned out to define a subclade of L1336. (The remainder of the SNPs in the series were found to be phylogenetically equivalent to L1336.) High-quality SNPs that appeared to define the subclade along with FGC11336 include FGC11316, FGC11323, FGC11341, FGC11346, FGC11347, FGC11350, FGC11352, FGC11353, FGC11356, FGC11357, and FGC11359. However, the last three of these are in one of the troublesome areas of the Y chromosome that are not recommended for phylogeny.
Who should test FGC113xx where xx = {16, 23, 36, 41, 46, 47, 50, 52, 53}:
Any person who has the 21-5909A signature or who has already tested L1336+
AND
who has surname Meagher, Magher, Mahar, Maher, Mahir, Marr, or something similar (for example, Meade or Meeker), or who suspects a deep ancestral connection to the O'Meaghers of Ikerrin sept that originated in Roscrea, County Tipperary. This is exploratory testing and the test results could further break up this subclade into additional distinct branches.

Not all members of the cluster match the signature perfectly. Note that the signature is a continual work in progress, based on existing members in the cluster, and is tweaked as new members are found.
