The I1-P109 Virginia-A THORNTON group is unusual within P109 as participants are DYS-455=9 and YCAIIb=20. Participants should ascertain these two STRs before proceeding with testing using this panel.
The results of testing with the Virginia-A THORNTON Panel Test #1 will enable participants to determine their ancestry:
(1). All true I1-P109/DYS455=9 participants will be positive for the control SNPs in this panel: S7660 and FGC14508/Y3663.
(2). Descendants of Immigrant William THORNTON [b. c1621] will be positive for Y6220 and Y6213-Y6216; you will be negative for both the Luke (YP1012) and Northamptonshire (FGC14515) SNPs. If you are negative for the William SNP, you are NOT a descendant of Immigrant William THORNTON.
(3). Descendants of Luke THORNTON [b. c1652] will be positive for YP1012 and Y6213-Y6216; you will be negative for both the William (Y6220) and Northamptonshire (FGC14515) SNPs. If you are negative for the Luke SNP, you are NOT a descendant of Luke THORNTON.
(4). Participants descending from the Northamptonshire group will be positive for the SNP FGC14515, and negative for Y6220, YP1012, and Y6213-Y6216.
(5). “Other” THORNTON groups will be negative for the SNPs Y6220 (William), YP1012 (Luke), and FGC14515 (Northamptonshire), and may be +/- for any or all of the following SNPs: FGC17110/Y6213, Y6214, Y6215, and/or Y6216.
